Evil--Why?

Some angels as well as all men today are sinners.  Thus both types of beings are capable of perpetrating evil; equally, both kinds may refrain from sinning and do good.
2 Peter 2:4, "For if God spared not the angels who had sinned, but having cast them down to the deepest pit of gloom has delivered them to chains of darkness to be kept for judgment."
Catastrophes, accidents and natural disasters occur frequently; innocent infants die for a variety of reasons.  The cacophony of evil around us shakes our world in ever increasing stress.  We are so  benumbed by this sea of evil that when 20, 50, 100, or 30,000 die in Iraq or Sudan due to war or ethnic cleansing, we do not even shudder of terror.

If God loves us, why is this happening?

We all know how vaccines work.  A doctor injects a person with a vaccine to prevent the individual from catching a particular virulent disease.  Do we also remember how this vaccine is produced?  Perhaps a horse is injected with the real disease or a partial virus that will let the horse's immune system fight the disease, produce antibodies that the scientist can harvest to produce human vaccines.  Nonetheless, some living organism had to fight the disease at least once before the vaccine becomes available.  This is what is happening to the world at the moment.  How?

All of us are aware that some things deserve to be treated with the utmost respect, care.  We take care to turn off the gas of our stove or water heater, we store gasoline safely, we lock dangerous poisons away out of reach of small children.  Even so, disasters and crimes do happen.  When God created beings given free will, he in fact used the most hazardous substance in his as well as our universe – a substance more dangerous than hydrogen bombs.

He realized that there would be unavoidable conflagrations.  He also knew that he could put out and extinguish any inferno, no matter how bad.

Unfortunately, it seems that even God's works are subject to Murphy's laws!  Murphy's law as stated by Wikipedia says, "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time,"  and  it did!

As far as we know, Satan was the covering angel given the assignment of guarding us.  He developed a desire to become God and desired the adoration, worship of  human beings.  We all know what happened to Adam and Eve, so I won't repeat it.  (Gen 3:1-15)  The thing is, before the first human couple had time to produce offspring, Satan got them to disobey God.  This disobedience constituted a rebellion, a rejection of God's theocracy.

In the book of Job, the problem is spelled out for us.  Satan claimed the following:
(Darby)
Job 1:11, "But put forth thy hand now and touch all that he hath, and see if he will not curse thee to thy face!"

Job 2:4-5, "And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life; 5but put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and see if he will not curse thee to thy face!"
Satan did not challenge God's power.  He was not totally suicidal!  Satan challenged that men would want to worship God out of love and obey his commandments out of love.  He claimed that men wouldn't give their life or their possessions for the sake of serving God.

Since, Adam and Eve had no perfect offspring that could stand in and say "we obey, we don't follow our parents" all mankind fell into imperfection by the disobedience of Adam.  Also, Adam's disobedience showed that some men would do as Satan claimed!  For the sake of proving if men can govern themselves successfully, men were permitted self-rule.  This self-rule had to go on until the proof became conclusive.  As recent as ca 200 years ago, the earth's biosphere was nigh pristine.  Only today has it become apparent that the earth's biosphere is being destroyed by our mismanagement.

This is why God is permitting our mischief, the catastrophes, and everything else that self-rule and independence implies.  The time allotted has also permitted Satan to get his forces rallied for a final confrontation, and it has been used by God to provide an escape for those who have faith.

Those who have faith in the ransom of God's son, Christ Jesus, are assured a resurrection--if necessary--to life in paradise.  There God promises to undo all the effects of evil.
Rev 21:3, 4, "And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God himself with them shall be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away."

Vaccine

Once God brings our present system of things, this evil world, to an end.  All necessary proof is in for all eternity.  Never again will God permit his theocracy's rule through love to fail and come to naught!

One final time, at the end of Christ's thousand year reign will Satan and his demons be let lose for a little while before they are destroyed.  Then perfected individuals of humanity will get the chance to each choose if they want Satan's world or God's.

There will be many that do not want God's peaceful paradise where they cannot amass riches or suppress others as is happening today.  These will go to their end with Satan, and all the evildoers will forever be destroyed.  From this time on, never again will a combined group of evil beings cooperate to force their will on mankind.

So, in the end, this hazardous substance, free will, will be under control and will benefit all that employ it to serve God.

There will always be those who after reading this will complain about this being free will.  The exercise of free will is not an invitation to chaos.  God is a God of order not of disorder.  Thus exercising free will should benefit everyone by orderly lifestyles that concentrate on benefiting each other.

If you exercise your free will and go on a vacation to Venice or New York, have pizza or spaghetti, walk to work, ride a bicycle to work, or go by train, marry a pretty girl, or a pretty girl with brains -- that is what free will is designed for.  It is not an invitation to kill, maim, conduct war, or to destroy the earth's ecosystems.

Justice and Mercy

For the sake of satisfying the sense of innate justice each human possesses, the inspired word tells us that a re-creation, a regeneration will occur during Christ's thousand year reign.
Matt 19:28, Truly I say to YOU, In the re-creation, when the Son of man sits down upon his glorious throne, YOU who have followed me will also yourselves sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  (NW)

Matt 19:28, And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel  (DRC)
During this time many will be resurrected.  Included will be masses of people labeled unrighteous.  (Acts 24:15, Rom 2:14-16)  Paul in Romans assures us these unrighteous – those ignorant of God, Jehovah, and his son Christ – will be judged individually and those 'deserving' will be resurrected. (The subject of judgment has its own page)
