Unforgivable Sins

Bible students immediately think of the one that is said to be unforgivable; namely, sinning against the Holy Spirit.
(Webster) Mark 3:29, But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never hath forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
Direct blasphemy against the Holy Spirit thus is seen to carry a high price tag. One would think that such direct attacks are rare; more common though not so direct forms of blasphemy, other ways of blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, exist.  Thus, Jesus' statement appears cryptic and stands singularly alone, isolated from nigh any hint at what he meant.  Fortunately, several other passages in the Christian writings supply us with enough data to be able to assimilate the facts shaping them into an explanation of the phenomena.

Let's avail ourselves of the other scriptures on that subject.
(DRC) Acts 7: 51, You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you also.
(NW) 1 Thessalonians 2:14, 16, [are suffering] at the hands of the Jews, 15 . . . 16 as they try to hinder us from speaking to people of the nations that these might be saved, with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But his wrath has at length come upon them.

James 2:19, thou--thou dost believe that God is one; thou dost well, and the demons believe, and they shudder!
These scriptures teach what we know to be true in regard to Satan and the fallen angels, the demons. These also continually "resist the Holy Ghost," and "always fill up the measure of their sins."  From this we can understand that the sin against the Holy Spirit is an active opposition to God and his purposes. Not only that, but the scripture included from James show the wicked spirits do believe in God!  We must remember, he is their father and they associated with him prior to turning away from him.

For this reason, sinning against the Holy Spirit, it would seem, may also be named anti-faith. the active working against God's Holy Spirit. This is why there is no forgiveness for this sin, and it is why it is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

The second sin that is unforgivable is that of having no faith.
Jude 5 But I would put you in remembrance, you who once knew all things, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, in the second place destroyed those who had not believed. (Darby)

(YLT) Hebrews 10:38-39, and `the righteous by faith shall live,' and `if he may draw back, My soul hath no pleasure in him,' 39and we are not of those drawing back to destruction, but of those believing to a preserving of soul.

(Darby) Psalm 106:23-26, And he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses, his chosen, stood before him in the breach, to turn away his fury, lest he should destroy them . 24And they despised the pleasant land; they believed not his word, 25But murmured in their tents: they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah. 26And he lifted up his hand to them, that he would make them fall in the wilderness.

(NW) Revelation 21:7-8, But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death."

From the above scriptures, it is evident that not having faith is another unforgivable sin.

Next, only the practice of sin remains. The practice of sin refers to Christians who have come to accurate knowledge and return to commit sin not by mistake or accidentally, but with premeditation and without remorse. These will not any longer have any sacrifice remaining for their sins and like the demons go toward the second death.
(NW) Hebrews 10:26, 27, For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, 27 but [there is] a certain fearful expectation of judgment and [there is] a fiery jealousy that is going to consume those in opposition.. . .
(ACV) Heb 10:26, 27, For when we sin willfully after taking the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and of fire, a fervor that is going to devour the opposition.

This last type of sin on closer examination has to be the same as the sin against the Holy Spirit.

As the graph showed, there are three types of faith, anti-faith, no faith, and the exercise of faith. Let us keep exercising faith so as to attain salvation, always accomplishing our ministry as God's fellow workers.
1 Corinthians 3:8-9, Now he that plants and he that waters are one, but each [person] will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers. YOU people are God's field under cultivation, God's building.
