Procreational sex – a definite Yes

A rumor to the effect that original sin was Adam having intercourse with his wife, Eve, has been heard.  It is of course totally wrong as many rumors are. Original sin had nothing to do with sex!  In fact, sex was not only approved of by God, God commanded Adam and Eve to have it!

How? By commanding them to be "fruitful and multiply."
Genesis 1:27-28, And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth . . . (ASV)
Throughout history, God's opinion about sex has not changed.

Sex for Mutual Joy Encouraged

Ecclesiastes 9:9, "Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of thy life of vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all thy days of vanity: for that is thy portion in life, and in thy labor wherein thou laborest under the sun." (ASV)
Proverbs 5:15-19, Drink waters out of thine own cistern, And running waters out of thine own well. 16 Should thy springs be dispersed abroad, And streams of water in the streets? 17Let them be for thyself alone, And not for strangers with thee. 18Let thy fountain be blessed; And rejoice in the wife of thy youth. 19 As a loving hind and a pleasant doe, Let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; And be thou ravished always with her love.
As the scriptures amply show, God encourages recreational sex between husband and wife.

Empathy in regard to mate's needs

1 Corinthians 7:2-6 but on account of fornications, let each have his own wife, and each woman have her own husband. 3Let the husband render her due to the wife, and in like manner the wife to the husband. 4The wife has not authority over her own body, but the husband: in like manner also the husband has not authority over his own body, but the wife. 5Defraud not one another, unless, it may be, by consent for a time, that ye may devote yourselves to prayer, and again be together, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency. 6But this I say, as consenting to , not as commanding it . (Darby)

As seen here, Paul shows that couples should exercise empathy in regard to one's mate's physical needs. This of course goes both ways, so that the male should try to restrain himself if he has too big an appetite.

Interlude on Marriage and Divorce

Here a brief interlude on marriage is a must!

The following scriptures show that God hates divorces
. For this reason, Paul tells Christians that if they lack self-control to remain single, they should marry once they are past the bloom of youth.  It seems obvious that young people, 16-19, who are inflamed with passion are less able to make a good lasting choice in selecting a mate for life.

Malachi 2:15-16 "Therefore should ye take heed to your spirit, and, with the wife of thy youth, do not thou deal treacherously.
16 For he hateth divorce, saith Yahweh, God of Israel,
him also who covereth with violence his own clothing, saith Yahweh of hosts,—therefore should ye take heed to your spirit, and not deal treacherously."

1 Corinthians 7:8-9 "But I say, to the unmarried, and to the widows, good, were it for them, that they should abide, even as I; 9But,
if they have not self-control, let them marry, for, better, is it, to marry than to burn (with passion). " (my edit) (Rotherham)
1 Corinthians 7:36, But if any one think that he behaves unseemly to his virginity, if he be beyond the flower of his age, and so it must be, let him do what he will, he does not sin: let them marry. (Darby)

Death Penalty

All other sex carries prohibition and a severe penalty. Fornication, adultery, homosexuality, bestiality -- these carry the death penalty.  Those who upon becoming Christians abandon these condemned activities may be forgiven if they repent and discontinue the practice of such sins.

1 Corinthians 6:11, And such were some of you:   but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified  . . .(ASV)
Christians who practice these will not see God's Kingdom.
Galatians 5:19-21,  And manifest also are the works of the flesh, which are: Adultery, whoredom, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strifes, emulations, wraths, rivalries, dissensions, sects, 21envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revellings, and such like, of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that those doing such things the reign of God shall not inherit.  (YLT)

Colossians 3:5-6, "Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth, fornication, uncleanness, vile passions, evil lust, and unbridled desire, which is idolatry.6 On account of which things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience."   (Darby)
1 Corinthians 6:9
(NW): "What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men.

(Darby): Do ye not know that unrighteous persons shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men.

Divorce

First, God hates divorces.
Malachi 2:16 For he hateth divorce, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, him also who covereth with violence his own clothing, saith Yahweh of hosts,—therefore should ye take heed to your spirit, and not deal treacherously. 17Ye have wearied Yahweh with your words, and yet ye say, Wherein have we been wearisome? When ye have said, Everyone who doeth wrong, is right in the eyes of Yahweh, and, in them, he hath taken delight, or, Where is the God of justice? (Rotherham)
Still, God permits it in cases of gross sexual misconduct. In these cases, the choice to divorce with God's approval is given to the victim. Of course, in our world, many offenders institute divorces -- so at times, who divorces whom becomes mote.
Matt 5:32, ISV, But I say to you, any man who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
The Christian is given one extra divinely approved reason for divorce. It is stated here:
1 Corinthians 7:12-16, But as to the rest, *I* say, not the Lord, If any brother have an unbelieving wife, and *she* consent to dwell with him, let him not leave her. 13And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to dwell with her, let her not leave her husband. 14For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the brother; since otherwise indeed your children are unclean, but now they are holy.
15But if the unbeliever go away, let them go away; a brother or a sister is not bound in such cases , but God has called us in peace.

16For what knowest thou, O wife, if thou shalt save thy husband? or what knowest thou, O husband, if thou shalt save thy wife? (Darby)
From the above, our choices are clear. Here a personal interpretation comes to play that others may not agree on. Paul's "she /he consent to dwell" – I take to mean, dwell in peace together without violence and hitting.  Thus if the unbeliever is dangerously violent, repeatedly violent, the indication is that he or she indeed does not consent to dwell with their mate!

This I take so far that if a person professing to be Christian acts un-Christian as a practice and makes a practice out of physical abusing their mate, this in my opinion nullifies the obligation of the innocent one to remain and subject themselves to this. It indicates that the abuser has left his God and no longer can be considered Christian.
