Daughter of Zion

 (updated 2008.08.22)
A computer search counted thirty-three occurrences of the term.  Because the subject quickly became transparent, this page will briefly define what the term refers to.  An alternate but equal term is the daughter of Jerusalem that occurs seven times.

Let's examine key scriptures to determine who is referred to:
(Darby)
2 Kings 19:21, This is the word that Jehovah has spoken against him: The virgin-daughter of Zion despiseth thee, laugheth thee to scorn; The daughter of Jerusalem shaketh her head at thee.

Lamentations 2:15, All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and shake their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: Is this the city which they called, The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?
As we can see, the daughter of Zion is the same as the daughter of Jerusalem, the city Jerusalem.  Please be aware that the scriptures used here do not constitute the total number demonstrating this Biblical fact.

The following scriptures give adequate proof who the daughter of Jerusalem is in its Christian application.
Jeremiah 6:2-4, The comely and the delicate one I have cut off, The daughter of Zion. 3Unto her come do shepherds and their droves, They have stricken tents by her round about, They have fed each in his own station. 4Sanctify ye against her the battle, Rise, and we go up at noon. (YLT)

Micah
4:7,8, And I will make that which was lame a remnant, and that which was cast far off a strong nation. And LORD will reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth even forever. 8And thou, O tower of the flock, the hill of the daughter of Zion, to thee it shall come. Yea, the former dominion shall come, the kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem. (ACV)

4:10, Be pained, and bring forth, O daughter of Zion, As a travailing woman, For now, thou goest forth from the city, And thou hast dwelt in the field, And thou hast gone unto Babylon, There thou art delivered, There redeem thee doth Jehovah from the hand of thine enemies. (YLT)

4:13, Arise, and thresh, O daughter of Zion, For thy horn I make iron, And thy hoofs I make brass, And thou hast beaten small many peoples, And I have devoted to Jehovah their gain, And their wealth to the Lord of the whole earth!  (YLT)

(DRC)
Zechariah 2:10-13, Sing praise, and rejoice, O daughter of Sion: for behold I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee: saith the Lord. 11And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and they shall be my people, and I will dwell in the midst of thee: and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to thee. 12And the Lord shall possess Juda his portion in the sanctified land: and he shall yet choose Jerusalem. 13Let all flesh be silent at the presence of the Lord: for he is risen up out of his .holy habitation.

Zechariah 9:9-10, Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Sion, shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem: BEHOLD THY KING will come to thee, the just and saviour: he is poor, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. 10And I will destroy the chariot out of Ephraim, and the horse out of Jerusalem, and the bow for war shall be broken: and he shall speak peace to the Gentiles, and his power shall be from sea to sea, and from the rivers even to the end of the earth.  rulership will be from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of [the] earth.

Matthew 21:4-5 4Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 5Tell ye the daughter of Sion: Behold thy king cometh to thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of her that is used to the yoke.

The above scriptures demonstrate who the daughter of Zion, of Jerusalem, is.  They also reveal a quite common feature of God's prophecies; namely, that they have dual applications.  This feature is demonstrated by the inclusion of the scripture from Matthew.

Who then is the daughter of Zion?

We see she went to Babylon, was rescued from there, that she shall thresh the nations coming to wage war against her with iron and brass.  The conclusion then is evident.  The daughter of Zion, of Jerusalem, consists of all the Saints who are heirs of God, joint heirs with Christ.  These constitute the man child of Revelation 12:1-5, the bride of the Lamb, and New Jerusalem.
Rev 12:5, And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with an iron rod: and her son was taken up to God, and to his throne. (DRC)

Psalms 149:5,6, The saints shall rejoice in glory: they shall be joyful in their beds. 6The high praise of God shall be in their mouth: and two-edged swords in their hands: 7To execute vengeance upon the nations, chastisements among the people: 8To bind their kings with fetters, and their nobles with manacles of iron. 9To execute upon them the judgment that is written: this glory is to all his saints. Alleluia.  (DRC)

Zechariah 14:3, 5b, And Jehovah will go forth and fight with those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle  . . . And Jehovah my God shall come, and all the holy ones with thee. (Darby)
This man child grows up to become adult when all the remaining Saints are brought to heaven in one go right after the Great Tribulation, but pre-Armageddon.  This happens so that this man child, this daughter of Zion, may together with Christ fight the battle of Armageddon and thresh the nations with iron and brass.

It should be noted that there exist a great many scriptures independently establishing that these Saints shall fight side by side with Christ during Armageddon.  Elsewhere some of them may have been used; however, if you want these please ask.

For the sake of avoiding confusion or to compound it, it should be mentioned that this man child that shall rule the nations is also the bride of Christ mentioned in Revelation chapter 21.

Revelation 21:2-5, And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God himself with them shall be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away. (DRC)

Rev 21:9-13, And there came one of the seven angels, who had the vials full of the seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying: Come, and I will shew thee the bride, the wife of the Lamb. 10And he took me up in spirit to a great and high mountain: and he shewed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11Having the glory of God, and the light thereof was like to a precious stone, as to the jasper stone, even as crystal. 12And it had a wall great and high, having twelve gates, and in the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. 13On the east, three gates: and on the north, three gates: and on the south, three gates: and on the west, three gates. 14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them, the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Is New Jerusalem going to come down to earth?  Here is some materal copied from the "Who are God's people", page four.

Luke 22:29, And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; 30That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (KJV)

Mark 14:25, Verily I say to you, I will no more drink at all of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. (Darby)

Acts 3:21, (Christ is the antecedent) "He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore all everything." (NIV)
Also, NWT and NJB here, ". . . Then he will send you the Christ he has predestined, that is Jesus, 21whom heaven must keep till the universal restoration comes which God proclaimed, speaking through his holy prophets
Christ the king and his brothers, the Saints that reign with him, are shown in three places to be active on earth and to eat and drink on earth once the kingdom has been established.  From this we may understand that while the Saints inherit a heavenly resurrection, they and Christ will not be distant rulers, but will be ruling with some presence, some physical manifestation in Israel.

Israel here refers to earth. Refer to the the mentioned page for more on what Israel is.

The above scriptures abundantly demonstrate that Jesus himself and his co-rulers shall come down to earth.  Since these co-rulers constitute New Jerusalem, it indeed is as Revelation stated "coming down out of heaven."  In a most litereal way, we can see that God's tent, or protective cover of rulership is going to be with men for always.
