The Hidden Truth of Bible History

I have not checked to see if the links mentioned on this page still are active.

Truth in Common Terms

The Bible is not intended to be a scientific manual for scientists of any kind; it's addressed to the ordinary man who might just know how to read. As such, when the number Pi is extrapolated from the context, its value is 3. Similarly, the sun is said to be setting and rising—a turn of phrase that still is in common use. Even today, most people may not remember Pi more accurately than 3.14--if they remember it at all?

God’s power and knowledge were displayed through His works and through His miracles toward His people. As we read in Romans 1:20, “ . . .For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world's creation onward . . .;” thus, the ordinary man expects God to care for him, and he appreciates the manner in which this is done.

Hidden truth

This means, however, that though what is stated in the scriptures is the truth that it may not be the whole truthFor this reason, Christians are encouraged to meditate upon what they read in the Holy Writings so that they may more fully understand God’s teachings and intentions.

The Flood

With the above in mind, let us first examine the flood. Genesis 6:17 states, "And as for me, here I am bringing the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force of life is active from under the heavens. Everything that is in the earth will expire. . .”

The reason stated for the deluge was to destroy violent and wicked mankind. (Gen 6:11-13) Now, a little meditation on what is taught throughout the scriptures in regard to God’s executions brings to mind the account about Sennacherib: “. . .the angel of Jehovah proceeded to go out and strike down a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the As·syr′i·ans. . .” (2 Kings 19:35)No one knows how large the pre-flood population was. However, with only ten generations from Adam to the Deluge, the number must have been relatively small. I personally believe the number to have been between 500,000 – 10,000,000. If we take the lower number of 500,000 then only two or three angels could easily have killed all existing pre-flood humans in one night! Since the Bible states that God may call upon up to 10,000,000 angels (Dan 7:10) to do His bidding at any time, we immediately recognize that the deluge’s purpose was not only to rid the earth of evil men. The deluge served some larger purpose!

What purpose was that?

This purpose is hinted at in Genesis when God confused men’s tongues!

Genesis 11:6-8,  6And Jehovah said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do: and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do. 7Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8So Jehovah scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off building the city. (ASV)

Acts 17:26, and he made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation; (ASV)

Deuteronomy 32:8, 8When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, When he separated the children of men, He set the bounds of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel. (ASV)

Psalm 74:17, It was you that set up all the boundaries of the earth (NW)
Caution: I know this scripture is ambiguous because it is hard to know if the boundaries in question are in regard to mankind or in regard to the physical earth, its land, its mountains, its seas. Nonetheless, it doesn’t contradict the other scriptures if it is taken to refer to mankind and its national boundaries.

The Deluge and its effects

About the deluge, this was stated: (Genesis 7:19-20) “And the waters overwhelmed the earth so greatly that all the tall mountains that were under the whole heavens came to be covered. 20 Up to fifteen cubits the waters overwhelmed them and the mountains became covered.”

Where did the water come from?
Gen 8:2 . . . the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
From this we see that there were two sources of water, a heavenly one and the fountains of the deep earth. What God used to break these open with – one can only speculate on – so, perhaps a huge meteorite hit the earth?

Mountains

Here, it is categorically stated that the floodwaters covered even the tallest mountains on earth. One may perhaps by this guesstimate that the highest antediluvian mountains were no higher than Mount Ararat at the time of the flood, which cannot have been higher than today; though, before the flood and even immediately afterward, it could have been even smaller than it is today?!

A sidestep about Mount Ararat: there is this to say, the scriptural record mentions a chain of mountains of Ararat -- plural ! It is thus obvious that the possibility that the present day Mount Ararat and the then known chains of mountains named Ararat are different. Also the translation of Genesis 11:1 in which we read that "they journeyed east" is seen from the fine additional notes in ASV to also be taken to mean "in the east."

Genesis 8:4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. (ASV)

Genesis 11:1 And the whole earth was of one (1) language and of one (2) speech.(1) Heb lip 2) Heb words ) 2And it came to pass, as they journeyed (1) east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.(.(1) Or in the east ) (ASV)

1. Thus we can see that if "they journeyed east," the ark can not be anywhere near present day Mount Ararat for them to arrive at the plains of Shinar since the plains of Shinar are nearly directly south from Mr. Ararat.

2. However, some claim that because the Bible says the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat, this indicates an the area south of Mt. Ararat.

Wikepidia mentions that some speculate that Cudi Dagh, at 37°21' N., 42°17E said to be ca. 200 miles south of Mt. Ararat, might be the proper location. Such a much more southerly location would at least permit a travel direction going somewhat east though still mostly southward. This would comply with the ASC "in the east" alternate rendering.   (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Judi)

3. The NIV also says from the east is an alternate translation. That would make it in the Iran-Afghanistan area.

4. One private person who devoted a lot of time in the search claimed according to Wikipedia and other sources to have located the ark and on the link he stands in a picture in which the supposed remains of the ark may be seen. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Fasold)  This person believes to have found proof in both a boat like structure and numerous anchor stones that are scattered about in the vicinity of the object he claimed to be the ark.

This is actually discussed in detail on the homepage at the following link: http://www.wyattmuseum.com/noahs-ark-07.htm

It would be nice if this object he has found could be professionally researched and documented.  But perhaps there are too many people who no matter the cost will want such finds discredited.

At this link http://www.wyattarchaeology.com/noah.htm the pictures of anchor stones that are assumed to be from Noah's ark are shown. The Bible doesn't mention these directly, but other sources do, and perhaps the Bible alludes to them in Gen 8:4. How did it rest when the waters had not gone away yet is the point made for the existence of the anchor stones other sources mention.

Gen 8:4, And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. (ASV)

If these anchor stones belonged to the Ark, it stands to reason the ark also would have to be in the vicinity of its anchor stones -- but conjecture a lot of this is.  What this means is the usual Genesis account specificity – nothing truly is known for certain. End of sidestep

Water levels

(Edit 2009.02 - three paragraphs)

Today on the Yahoo main news page, the following was found: article
By Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent Tue Feb 24, 9:39 am ET, "Alp-sized peaks found entombed in Antarctic ice."

In this article Mr. Doyle states that the 4km, 2.5 miles, of ice covering the mountains must have covered these quickly.   Whatever the reasoning for this statement is, the noteworthy part about it is that it was accomplished quickly and to a depth of 4km.

If this data is indicative of the deluge's global depth is unknown.  Still, the ice in Greenland and the antartic clearly represents an average of how much water covered the earth at its maximum during the flood.  Obviously, the 2400 meters mentioned below must be reconsidered.

However, someone, for the sake of disproving the Bible’s deluge account, calculated the amount of water needed and the amount of water present today on earth and in earth’s atmosphere and showed thatthere only is enough water present to cause a height of maybe 2400 meters if the earth was a perfect round and smooth sphere. This would make it impossible for the flood to cover a great number of mountains existing today.

Obviously, the flood brought about great changes on earth that eventually caused mountain chains and mountains like Mount Everest and Mount K22 to rise. Ultimately, the fact that there was more water after the flood than before the flood would have to at some time lead to loss of dry land as the various systems -- ice-age resulting from the deluge, deeper oceans, higher mountains -- came to a point of balance. I have read studies that describe the existence of ancient riverbeds now submerged in the seas that at least demonstrate that once the water levels were substantially lower than they are in our time.  Lately , archeological studies have found  the remains of old  dwellings under  lakes and seas  in several places of the earth.   Naturally, these are explained away  as having nothing to do with the flood in most cases.

Low water levels

Since there are animals on the continent of Australia and other such water-locked, isolated places, one must also conclude that when the water levels dropped right after the flood, they dropped really low so that there where land bridges connecting the various parts of the world for the animals to cross.  Since the earth had just experienced an increase of water, hence the flood, the ice-age scientists speak of must have been a direct result of the flood waters covering the earth. The polar regions must perhaps all have frozen over.

Perhaps Greenland gives an indication of how high the water came? A great many supposes have to be used. Still, if the water that came was stored in the Van Allen Belt then it would most likely have been fresh water, not immediately very saline. Thus Greenland's ice sheet would also be composed of fairly fresh water. It could be interesting if a scientist took an unbiased look at these options.

Then, as Noah's account shows, the waters started receding. The continental plates were in motion, mountains ascending, ocean basins perhaps made deeper? The end result was an artificial low ocean water level resulting from a combination ice-age and deeper ocean basins? After the ice melted, the oceans reached their current level.

Again, God’s guiding hand is demonstrated. Otherwise the animals of e.g. Australia would not be so distinctly separate and fitted to their environment. Presently, various specialized dissimilar ecosystems exist worldwide. Therefore, the angels must have taken an active interest in guiding animals to their various needed ecosystems in such varied places as Australia, South America, etc. Though the post-flood ice-age may have made the extreme north and south inaccessible to many kinds of animals, it simultaneously must have caused low sea levels that created land bridges on which many animals and humans obviously crossed. This would explain very neatly why certain animals disappears from the fossil record in North and South America simultaneously whileAfrica didn't seem to experience this loss. In fact, Africa experienced the same loss, but the stock was renewed after the flood!

Secular Opinion

One may also conclude that the latest ice age scientists describe happened as part of the flood and that this ice age persisted for not Deka-millennia, but for a span of centuries, or for one or two millennia.  As proof of this, I submit the underwater sites recently discovered off the Coast of Yonaguni Island in the southern part of theOkinawan Island chain. I submit that these sites are post-flood in origin. NHK TV in Japan tied this site together with one they located in South America, Peru (perhaps), because they looked nearly identical.

It would then seem logical that the builders in the Ryukyu’s were flooded out as the “ice age” came to its end maybe about 500 some years after the flood in 2370BCE according the one method of calculation and that they relocated to the mountains in Peru where they were sure to be able to finish their project without being flooded out.

While post-flood mankind started fanning out over the globe, after the confusion of languages at Babylon, the ice age must still have persisted causing low ocean water levels.

According to chronology accepted by many and calculated by means of the periods given by the Bible itself, the flood occurred 2370BCE to 2369BCE. Peleg is supposed to have lived from ca 2269BCE to 2030BCE.   If the base for the calculations is found wanting, one needs only add or subtract  the  difference to the events stated here to get the desired one.

Sometime, then during that 239 years of Peleg’s life, God confused and scattered mankind all over the earth. If we give the people arriving in the Ryukyu’s another 200 years in which to arrive and to start building then maybe the waters started rising about four to five hundred years after the flood—that would make it ca 1900BCE.  It is interesting to note that the northern countries’ documented histories are hard to trace much further back than 2000 years. Discernibly, their histories are of a later date than those ofBabylon, Persia, Egypt, etc.

The reason must have to do with the livability of the areas! If Scandinavia in ancient times were just a livable, just as appealing as today, it stands to reason people would have moved in, but they didn’t, perhaps because something prevented them. It could be something as simple as population pressures; it could also be a combination of that and the livability of the area.

Why 500 years?

Calculations have determined that the deluge started in 2370BCE. This becomes the point of origin for all other calculations.  The first point that caused the 500 year number to appear somewhat correct is that God confused men's languages during Peleg's lifetime which is between 2269BCE to 2030 B.C.E.  Thus the number is arrived at by logic not  historical or Biblical proof.  Mankind's exodus from Babylon took place sometime during the 239 years of Peleg’s life; from here they went to all the world's corners. The approximate timing counting from the flood to the end of Peleg’s life gives 340 years.

Now ask yourself, why did God choose this time to confuse men's languages? Because it would give them just enough opportunity and time to use the still exposed submerged land bridges that were created by the low sea levels. Let the people have time to slowly move over the land, give them 200 years -- though perhaps too little -- and we have a minimum of 500 years from the flood before the waters start rising and make traversing the land-bridges impossible.

End of Ice age

The end of the ice age brought raised ocean water levels and this would happen perhaps several hundred years after the flood. The flood itself saw the extreme changes in mountain ranges and mountain height. However, the gradual melting ice from the ice-age the flood created brought an end to the land bridges that permitted easy access toAustralia-Asia, America-Asia, and perhaps other places.

Purpose of flood – What purpose did it have?

God Himself has already hinted at one reason. He confused men’s languages because He didn’t want them to remain a single organized nation around Babylon. He wanted them to spread out over the whole earth. This was planned from before the flood and was the flood’s deeper purpose. The flood caused so great changes in the earth that most nations until modern times have been fairly isolated from each other. If the earth had remained relatively flat and with few or only small mountain ranges, with land bridges connecting most continents then the national groups couldn’t have developed as they did; the clear national grouping we see with Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Arabian, African traits wouldn’t have been as distinct or perhaps wouldn’t exist at all.

Another purpose is just being hinted at now. In this month’s National Geographic, September 2004, in the issue about global warming, the possibility of tremendous climatic changes looms real. Clearly, the global effects of the Deluge reach all the way till today. The ice age may have gone but the climatic changes of the Deluge still exist in the form of today’s weather patterns with the various effects causing deserts and such; included in these weather patterns are the Gulf Stream and its cousins. Scientists have expressed concern that these currents may suddenly be altered and cause tremendous climatic changes. It is my belief that these changes will be part of the Great Tribulation and are needed to prepare the earth to make it a better place for men to live, to make the deserts bloom and cause the conditions we read will be in paradise.

A far-out purpose?

A disclaimer is needed here: I do not believe nor endorse belief in the following. Some of the sites where the information was obtained from seem less than scientific. If the archaological facts could be verified then the conclusion may follow. Until renowned scientists verify the existence of the artifacts in question, this cannot be done.

Through the Internet information about ancient nuclear explosions is available. It seems that ancient sites have been radiated and still are radioactive. Besides, several of these sites contain the following which is a quote from a website: “These strange geological oddities are calledfulgurites and manifest as branched tubular forms rather than as flat sheets of fused sand. Therefore, lightning is largely ruled out as the cause of such finds by geologists, who prefer to hold onto the theory of a meteor or comet strike as the cause. The problem with this theory is that there is usually no crater associated with these anomalous sheets of glass.”

If it should prove true that the antediluvian world did experience such explosions then the scripture at (Webster) Ecclesiastes 1:9-11 is truer than we usually suppose: “The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun.10Is there [any] thing of which it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. 11 [There is] no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after.”

Conclusion: If it should prove true that atomic weapons were used in the pre-deluge world, this would most likely have been the work of the angels that forsook their original heavenly positions—Jude 6—and took human form. These heavenly beings would be in possession of scientific knowledge that humans never will know. Such beings could easily make any weapon desired. If this happened, it would stand to reason that God would want their works to totally vanish from all memory so as to give our present world time to develop. Might this also be one of the reasons that made it necessary for the deluge to occur even though it destroyed so much?
