Commentary: Christ reigns together with the Saints, the princes. This spiritual reign depends upon God pouring out his spirit for peace. It is obvious again that we are talking about an earthly paradise.
Isaiah 32:1 Lo,
for righteousness doth a king reign, As
to princes, for judgment they rule. 2And each hath been as a hiding-place from wind, And as a secret hiding-place from inundation, As rivulets of waters in a dry place, As a shadow of a heavy rock in a weary land. 3And not dazzled are the eyes of beholders, And the ears of hearers do attend. (YTL)
15Until there be poured out upon us the spirit, from on high,—Then shall the wilderness become, garden-land, And the garden-land, for a forest, be reckoned; 16Then shall, justice inhabit, the wilderness, And righteousness, in the garden-land, shall abide; 17
And the yield of righteousness, shall be, peace,—And the tillage of righteousness, quietness, and confidence! to times age-abiding; 18And my people shall dwell, In a borne of peace,—and In habitations of security, and In resting-places of comfort. 19But it shall hail during the felling of the forest, And in a sunken place, shall, the city, sink. 20How happy are ye who sow beside all waters,—Who send forth the foot of the ox and the ass. (Rotherham)
Commentary: The Saint is the one that shall inhabit in the heights, that shall see a land far away -- the land of heaven. His eyes shall behold the king. Further down in 22, Jehovah is king. As the Almighty, this is appropriate.
In this section Christ remains absent while the hope of a paradise earth is brought forth by "the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick."
Isaiah 33:15
He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking hold of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil: 16he shall dwell on high, the fortresses of the rocks shall be his high retreat; bread shall be given him, his water shall be sure. 17Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty; they shall behold the land that is far off.
22
For Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah, our lawgiver, Jehovah, our king: he will save us. 23Thy tacklings are loosed; they strengthen not the socket of their mast, they cannot spread the sail: then is the prey of
a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey. 24And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity. (Darby)
Commentary: Jesus, God's servant as foretold here received God's Holy Spirit on being baptized. He shall bring judgment, righteousness, to the nations, "set justice in the earth." Open the eyes of the blind, as Jesus himself quoted from here. Indeed the earth shall become a paradise
Isaiah 42:1-4,6,7
Behold my servant whom I uphold, mine elect in whom my soul delighteth! I will put my Spirit upon him; he shall bring forth
judgment to the nations. 2He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 3A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment according to truth. 4He shall not faint nor be in haste,
till he have set justice in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
6I, Jehovah, have called thee in righteousness, and will take hold of thy hand; and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations,
7to open the blind eyes, to bring forth the prisoner from the prison, them that sit in darkness out of the house of restraint. 8I am Jehovah, that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. (Darby)
Commentary: This is mirrored in II Peter 3:13, "But, according to his promise,
we wait for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness." From other scriptures, this refers to new systems of things, not to physical new heavens and a new earth. New Heavens then would refer to a new government, a heavenly government, and the new earth refers to the earth being filled with righteous mankind.
Isaiah 65:17 For behold,
I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 18But be glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create.
For behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19And I will rejoice over Jerusalem, and will joy in my people; and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. 20
There shall be no more thenceforth an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not completed his days; for the youth shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed. 21
And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof: 22they shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree shall be the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for terror; for they are the seed of the blessed of Jehovah, and their offspring with them. 24And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith Jehovah. (Darby)
Commentary: Daniel 2:39-43 is part and package of the explanation. Bible students have identified the last iron-clay as a present day rulership. The time then the God's kingdom shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed" is therefore in our present time.
Thus soon all existing governments will be erased and replaced by God's kingdom.
Daniel 2:44,45 And
in the days of these kings shall the God of the heavens set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the sovereignty thereof shall not be left to another people:
it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, but itself shall stand for ever. 45Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold, --the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. And the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure. (Webster)
Commentary: The Ancient of days, Jehovah, gives his son, Christ Jesus, the son of man kingdom power to rule all national groups on earth. Together with his brothers, the Saints, they shall rule everlastingly.
Daniel 7: 9,13,18,27 I beheld till thrones were placed, and the
Ancient of days sat: his garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like clean wool: his throne like flames of fire: the wheels of it like a burning fire.
13I beheld therefore in the vision of the night, and lo,
one like the son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and
he came even to the Ancient of days: and they presented him before him. 14And
he gave him power, and glory, and a kingdom: and all peoples, tribes and tongues shall serve him: his power is an everlasting power that shall not be taken away: and his kingdom that shall not be destroyed.
18
But the saints of the most high God shall take the kingdom: and they shall possess the kingdom for ever and ever.
27And that
the kingdom, and power, and the greatness of the kingdom, under the whole heaven, may be given to the people of the saints of the most High: whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all kings shall serve him, and shall obey him. (DRC)
Commentary: The gathering of the remnant of Israel here refers to the rest of the Saints in the last days, during Christ's presence. Their king who is ahead of them is of Christ, and their God is Jehovah. The fact that they have passed through the gate must refer to the their death and instant changing in which they receive the heavenly resurrection with immortal bodies.
Micah 2:12, 13 I
will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee;
I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the midst of their pasture; they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. 13The breaker is gone up before them: they have broken forth and passed on to the gate, and are gone out thereat; and t
heir king is passed on before them, and
Jehovah at the head of them. (ASV)
Commentary: This shoot, branch, or sprout is of course Jesus Christ. The word sprout also refers to Jesus coming out of Nazareth where he lived since child. As it says here and several other places, Christ shall rule, be king, and shall be a priest king. The far-off ones that come in refer of naturally to the Saints, the Born Again, that are being gathered from all the earth's national groups by means of the preaching work. These ones are building the temple of God in the sense that they themselves become the temple in which God will inhabit with his spirit. (Eph 2:19-22)
Zechariah 6:12-14 and hast spoken unto him, saying: Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying:
Lo, a man! A Shoot-- is his name, And from his place he doth shoot up, And
he hath built the temple of Jehovah. 13Yea, he doth build the temple of Jehovah, And he doth bear away honour, And
he hath sat and ruled on His throne, And hath been a priest on His throne, And a counsel of peace is between both. 14And the crown is to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of Jehovah. 15And
the far-off come in, and they have built in the temple of Jehovah, and ye have known that Jehovah of Hosts hath sent me unto you, yea, it hath come to pass, if ye do certainly hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God.' (YTL)
Commentary : All nations shall in a joint-effort fight against Jerusalem. This of course is a fight against the remnant of Saints on earth; however, since these belong to mount Zion or heavenly Jerusalem, the fight is directed against God's heavenly organization. For this reason Jehovah himself shall go forth in war together with the glorified Saints. After God's victory, his rulership becomes globally established over all through the rule of his son Christ and his joint-heirs, the Saints.
The horrible destruction of the ungodly is described in no uncertain terms.
