Definition of the sea

The sea refers to wicked mankind. The waters may refer to all nations and peoples.

Isaiah 57:20,21, But the wicked are like the raging sea, which cannot rest, and the waves thereof cast up dirt and mire. 21There is no peace to the wicked, saith the Lord God.  (DRC)

Rev 17,15, And he said to me: The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and nations, and tongues.  (DRC)

Definition of the earth

The land then refers to stable parts of mankind, and their governments.

Rev 17:15, And he said to me: The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and nations, and tongues. (DRC)

Revelation 16:2, And the first went and poured out his bowl on the earth; and there came an evil and grievous sore upon the men that had the mark of the beast, and those who worshipped its image.

Malignant evil and grievous sores do not kill, but are intensely bothersome.  That the sores are evil and grievous indicates that they are incurable, and furthermore, it indicates an extreme discomfort.

The people of the world that worship the political systems, that believe that politics is the way of hope for solving mankind’s problems – do we see these people being afflicted with unsolvable problems? being in agony over what is happening globally?

Indeed, with increasing severity that grows without boundaries, the problems keep heaping up.

Christians may suffer the problems of the world, but they have been told to raise their heads when these things are seen because their deliverance is near.

In that manner, the incurable pain belongs to the world and not to the Christian.

Revelation 16:3, And the second poured out his bowl on the sea; and it became blood, as of a dead man; and every living soul died in the sea.

There is little to go on, but taking it at face value, every single wicked person represented by the sea shall die by God’s dictate and execution.

Revelation 16:4-7, And the third poured out his bowl on the rivers, and on the fountains of waters; and they became blood. 5And I heard the angel of the waters saying, Thou art righteous, who art and wast, the holy one, that thou hast judged so; 6for they have poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; they are worthy. 7And I heard the altar saying, Yea, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
."

Rivers and fountains, sources of sweet water, the water of life for all things becomes blood.  Because of spilling innocent blood, the nations get to drink it themselves.

What does it mean that they get to drink blood?  Could it mean that their lives become filled with bloodshed all around, all the time?  Has the world become as violent as that?  It has in my opinion.  Everyday, we hear about 30-100 people losing their lives in war, and we don’t blink an eye.  We don’t even hear about the ten of thousands dying from hunger, from genocide, from the war against women in the Zaire Congo.

Is the world, so to say, drinking blood?  It is drowning in blood, more like it.  It revels in using billions for war efforts while billions suffer unheeded from hunger, thirst, and other manageable health problems.

Revelation 16:8-9, And the fourth poured out his bowl on the sun; and it was given to it to burn men with fire. 9And the men were burnt with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues, and did not repent to give him glory.

Is the world suffering from global heat?  It surely is.  Is that what is referred to?  I do not know.  But, it is one possible fit, one possible interpretation.

Revelation 16:10-11, And the fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast; and its kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues with distress, 11and blasphemed the God of the heaven for their distresses and their sores, and did not repent of their works.

Have the governments of the world shown themselves to be sterile, giving birth to wind and exasperation, unable to solve mankind’s problems?  Truly their kingdoms have no light to shine upon this road strewn with broken stone so as to avoid its obstacles.

What do we see a lot of people do when there are disasters?  They blaspheme God for not preventing these problems of their own creation.

Revelation 16:12-14, And the sixth poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates; and its water was dried up, that the way of the kings from the rising of the sun might be prepared. 13And I saw out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, as frogs; 14for they are the spirits of demons, doing signs; which go out to the kings of the whole habitable world to gather them together to the war of that great day of God the Almighty.

The kings from the east are Christ and his co-rulers, the 144,000 Saints.  Their way is being prepared.

Do we find that the spirit of the lie inspires these leaders of men to speak?

There seem to be a great many inspired expressions, false promises, exhortations to go to war to solve problems, exhortations to go to war to solve terrorism.

Even so, some of terrific events that recently have occurred have been shown by many knowledgeable people to have been self inflicted by our own governments for the sake of stirring up the population so as to gain support to erode the legal freedoms won so hard, so as to gain support to go to war.

Revelation 16:17-21, And the seventh poured out his bowl on the air; and there came out a great voice from the temple of the heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18And there were lightnings, and voices, and thunders; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, such an earthquake, so great. 19And the great city was divided into three parts; and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon was remembered before God to give her the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20And every island fled, and mountains were not found; 21and a great hail, as of a talent weight, comes down out of the heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of hail, for the plague of it is exceeding great.

The seventh bowl is poured out on the air.   Ephesians 2:2 (Darby) says, ". . .according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience."

Finally, it is time.  Satan gets a dose of his own medicine. His governments represented by mountains have been destroyed, a great many have died, cities have been destroyed, and among them, the global religious Babylon the great has finally come to its end forever.

Such large hail kills.  Thus perhaps this alludes to the fact that the pain, the tribulation, the struggle to endure - is finished.  Now it is time for God's reward of the wicked, of the righteous and of the Saints.

Earthquake
Ezekiel 38:19-21 tells us what the purpose of the earthquake is as even the text in Revelation testifies to.  Things, mountains (governments), cities, walls - shall be brought down.  Another effect is that of fright.  It will cause all, animal and humans to be frightened greatly.

Perhaps the best way to describe its overall effect is that present day status quo shall be no longer.
